Wintergreen Woods
Michigan City

Wintergreen Woods is defined by a rich mix of mature forest and delicate woodland groundcover. Towering beech trees anchor the landscape, joined by paper birch and black gum, whose textures and seasonal color bring subtle variety to the canopy above. Beneath your feet, flat green ground pine weaves through the forest floor alongside sedge species, Canada mayflower, and starflower. Visitors will also notice frequent “tip-ups,” where fallen trees have lifted their root systems skyward, offering a glimpse into the natural cycles of growth, decay, and renewal at work in the woods.

Wintergreen Woods is a State Dedicated Nature Preserve and was formerly owned by the LaPorte County Conservation Trust, Inc., reflecting a long-standing commitment to protecting this special landscape for future generations.
