Walnut Woods is a shady enclave of second-growth deciduous forest in a rapidly developing area on the Valparaiso Moraine. The property provides important habitat for wildlife. It features black walnuts, a variety of oak trees, and a good display of spring ephemeral wildflowers.

Walnut Woods Nature Preserve is located southwest of Valparaiso, off of 600 W and 50 N.

Park on the side of the road, next to the access lane marked by signs. Cross the ditch and walk north to the preserve.
