One of the most scenic and ecologically diverse preserves in Northwest Indiana, many species, from lizards and cactii to milkweed and mushrooms, call Coulter their home. Ambler Flatwoods Nature Preserve is getting a lot of love lately! Along with our current boardwalk project, we’re rejoining our campaign against invasive species that volunteers started last year. On Tuesday, November 26th, we’ll resume the removal of invasive species along the trail, enhancing the quality of the native habitat even further. Ambler will be looking better than ever!

Keith Richard Walner Nature Preserve comprises an impressive and significant floodplain forest along the Little Calumet River. The usual invasive suspects have taken hold along the banks of the Little Cal: bush honeysuckle, multiflora rose, and round-leaf bittersweet. This workday will focus on managing these species at the front of the preserve.
