About the Grant

Currently, the Calumet Land Conservation Partnership (CLCP) has developed Conservation Actions Plans for the identified areas in the map above. The Building Community Resilience in the Calumet Region (IL, IN) grant’s purpose is to bring community voices, needs, and priorities to the design and planning of resilience efforts within the region.

This grant is funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) National Coastal Resilience Fund (NCRF) which supports progressing nature-based solutions to reduce the exposure of coastal hazards on communities while aiming to enhance vital habitats. This grant falls into the Community Capacity Building and Planning Phase, with hopes of receiving the secondary phase of funding for Site Assessment and Preliminary Design.

To build coastal resilience, it takes an inclusive and collaborative effort from all members and organizations within the community. This grant focuses on incorporating community needs into a “living document” of strategies and preparation for future nature-based solutions that are not only impactful for wildlife but also the quality of life for the community.

Project Goals include:

1. Build new and strengthened relationships across communities and agencies

2. Center community voices in conservation planning

3. Identify high-impact nature-based solutions

4. Develop a Comprehensive Planning Report to guide future projects
