With its towering trees and dark interior, Father Basil Moreau Nature Preserve has an almost primeval feel. It features a wet hardwood forest with several temporary spring ponds and seasonally flooded streams. In spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with a fine display of ephemeral woodland wildflowers – spring beauty, woodland phlox, wild geranium, and dwarf ginseng. At the same time, migratory warblers brighten the scene with their melodious song. Little has changed in the wet, wooded wonderland for hundreds of years.
