Writing in the Woods: Poetry Workshop @ Barker Woods

What does nature want? What is nature saying? We’ll leave behind our internal media, argument, and censorship as we practice mindfulness in nature and writing in this interactive workshop series through the seasons.

Each workshop will be co-led by Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Save the Dunes, Poet Laureate of LaPorte County, Valerie Wallace. This particular event will also feature naturalist Esther Ikoro.

Our workshop will include a 30-minute guided hike, writing, reading, and community building. Though the focus will be poetry, all who wish to deepen their observation and language skills are welcome.

• Beginners welcome – no experience necessary.
• Free! Limited to 15 participants.
• Some activities will be held inside the historic Barker House, which has a few stairs and no ramp to enter.
• The trail at Barker Woods is a 0.78 mile-long, dirt trail, narrow to medium width (less than 36″), on relatively flat terrain.
• Feel free to bring your own notebook and pen; extra writing materials will be provided as well.
