Wellness Walk @ Coulter

Unwind and connect with nature with our Wellness Walks series, hosted by Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Purdue University Nutrition Education Program, and Community Healthcare System. Held on the 10th of each month, these FREE Wellness Walks will take place in various Shirley Heine nature preserves throughout Northwest Indiana and will focus on a variety of conservation, physical activity and health related topics from our partners.

June’s Wellness Walk will take place at John Merle Coulter Nature Preserve on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 5:30 pm CT.

Located just south of Indiana Dunes National Park’s West Beach, this preserve boasts woodland and dune habitat all in one. This event features a casual stroll through the woods, with opportunities to chat with healthcare professionals while learning about the local ecosystem. Our hike leaders will also demonstrate how spending time outside benefits your health.

John Merle Coulter is located at 1651 County Line Rd, Portage, IN. There is limited parking at the preserve, but overflow parking is available along 5th Avenue (map).

• Trail length: 0.8 mile
• Terrain: mostly flat grassy to sandy trails
• We recommend to bring sturdy shoes and a water bottle.
