Volunteer Workday @ Ritchie Nature Preserve

December 7, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST

Free
A wide variety of native plant species thrive within the understory of J. Timothy Ritchie Nature Preserve, including some magnificent ephemerals in the spring. You can help us give them some room to expand by removing invasive species that have gradually amassed along the trail. Our work will wind among the mature maples and towering beeches and along idyllic Sand Creek. Come out with us on Thursday, December 7th, and we’ll cut buckthorn, burning bush, multiflora rose, and other woody-stemmed invasive plants together. Let’s show this beautiful preserve, tucked inconspicuously between residential neighborhoods, some love!

Be prepared to work outside and dress appropriately for the weather. Conditions on the workday may be wet and will likely be cold.  We will provide all the necessary equipment, gear, and water. We encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle!

Please RSVP through the website form below. Question? Call the office at 219-242-8558 or email volunteer@heinzetrust.org.

Save time by filling out the online Volunteer Application prior to attending. We’ll also have hard copies for you at the workday. Come lend a hand, enjoy some time out in the woods with fellow volunteers, and learn about other meaningful opportunities with Shirley Heinze!
