Volunteer Workday @ Meadowbrook

Our native seed collection efforts are really kicking into high gear, and we now have a backlog of seeds to prep for fall, winter, and spring sowing. Our first order of business will be to finish the spiky seed heads of vervain that we collected from the Great Marsh. We’ll be sowing these particular seeds along with a large amount of joe-pye weed at our Green Friday event next month, so it’s imperative that we get them ready now. In addition, rattlesnake master, mountain mint, and various species of silphium all need to be cleaned so that they can be sown before the first big snowfall. We’ve got plenty to do, and we need your help!

Seed cleaning is a fun way to get an intimate look at the quiet but fascinating life cycle of our native plants while directly supporting our Stewardship staff, and an excellent chance to get to know your fellow volunteers better.

Since we’ll be working inside, no winter clothing is needed, other than what you’ll arrive in. We’ll provide any necessary tools or gear, light snacks, and water. As always, we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle!
