Volunteer Workday at Ambler Flatwoods
November 10, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST
Free

The dense, ancient forest of Ambler Flatwoods is home to a multitude of native plant and animal species. We just replaced a large section of the state-dedicated preserve’s boardwalk system so that visitors can continue to safely appreciate the flatwoods ecosystem. Following up on this improvement, we’re going to be taking out some invasive species along the trail to enhance the quality of the native habitat even further. Ambler will be looking better than ever! You can help us by coming by on Friday, November 10th to cut autumn olive, oriental bittersweet, and other unwelcome woody plants that, left unchecked, could outcompete the native flora.

Be prepared to work outside and dress appropriately for the weather. Conditions on the workday may be wet and will likely be cold. We will provide all the necessary equipment, gear, light snacks, and water. We encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle!
Please RSVP through the website form below. Question? Call the office at 219-242-8558 or email volunteer@heinzetrust.org.
Please fill out the online Volunteer Application prior to attending. We’ll also have hard copies for you at the workday. Come lend a hand, enjoy some time out in the woods with fellow volunteers, and learn about other meaningful opportunities with Shirley Heinze!
