Volunteer Workday at Ambler Flatwoods, Part II
November 17, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST
Free

Join us for the second installment of our invasive species removal at this unique and captivating preserve! The dense, ancient forest of Ambler Flatwoods is home to a multitude of native plant and animal species. We just replaced a large section of the state-dedicated preserve’s boardwalk system so that visitors can continue to safely appreciate the flatwoods ecosystem. Following up on this improvement, we’ve been taking out some invasive species along the trail to enhance the quality of the native habitat even further. We began our efforts this past week by restoring the head of the trail leading into the preserve from the north parking lot. We’ll be picking up where we left off- Ambler will be looking better than ever! Come out on Friday, November 17th to cut autumn olive, oriental bittersweet, and other unwelcome woody plants that, left unchecked, could outcompete the native flora.

Be prepared to work outside and dress appropriately for the weather. Conditions on the workday may be wet and will likely be cold. We will provide all the necessary equipment, gear, and water. We encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle!
Please RSVP through the website form below. Question? Call the office at 219-242-8558 or email volunteer@heinzetrust.org.
Save time by filling out the online Volunteer Application prior to attending. We’ll also have hard copies for you at the workday. Come lend a hand, enjoy some time out in the woods with fellow volunteers, and learn about other meaningful opportunities with Shirley Heinze!
