Volunteer! Shrub Removal at Cressmoor Prairie
March 3, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST
Free
Cressmoor Prairie is one of the last remaining black soil prairies in the state. Native wildflowers, tall grasses, and the myriad pollinators, insects, and other critters that rely on them are adapted to high levels of sunlight. When shrubs and tree saplings that start to invade a prairie, they create shade, decrease the amount of sunlight, and negatively impact the ability of our native plants to grow.
Come out and join us as we restore the south-west corner of the preserve to its original prairie habitat! We will be meeting in the parking lot off Wisconsin Street adjacent to the YMCA. Follow the parking lot till it dead ends and meet us at the west entrance.
Be prepared to work outside and dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide all the necessary equipment and gear, as well as granola bars and water, although we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle. Feel free to stay as little or as long as you’d like.
So that we can best plan for the event, please RSVP below, by calling the office at 219-242-8558, or emailing volunteer@heinzetrust.org. For information about last minute cancellations, please check Facebook.
