Volunteer! Seed Collecting in the Great Marsh

September 8, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

With Shirley Heinze conservation efforts here is the cardinal flower at Beverly Shores Project Area

Calling all volunteers! Shirley Heinze is hosting a volunteer session to collect seeds at The Great Marsh located in Beverly Shores.

The Great Marsh is a unique wetland habitat that helps purify water before it enters Lake Michigan, assisted in part by the specialized plants of the marsh. As part of our continuing restoration efforts to create a corridor of habitats for our native pollinators, we need your help in collecting seeds of several plant species.

Join Dale Nichols, long-time and multi-talented volunteer of Shirley Heinze Land Trust (SHLT), Doug Botka, Stewardship Assistant with SHLT, and other dedicated volunteers at intersection of Beverly Drive and Wells RoadParking will be available on the south side of Beverly Drive. Feel free to stay as little or long as you’d like!
It is required to dress appropriately due to wet terrain with tall grass:
  • Protective waterproof knee-high boots or high-top hiking boots
  • Long pants & Long sleeves
  • Hat

We will provide all the necessary equipment (gardening gloves, insect repellent, TecNu, and sunscreen)

If you are new to the Shirley Heinze Volunteer Program, please fill out the Volunteer Application and Liability Waiver before the event. We will also have extra forms available on site.

We are allowing a max of 10 volunteers (per day)! Please RSVP!
Our team will provide volunteers with water and snacks however, we do encourage bringing your own reusable water bottle!
