Volunteer! Native Plant Propagation for Lydick Bog & The Great Marsh – Supplies Pickup
March 11, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST
Free
During the waning days of summer 2021 and into the early fall, our dedicated volunteers collected seeds from native wildflowers and shrubs at Lydick Bog and The Great Marsh to aid in our habitat restoration efforts at these preserves. Other volunteers diligently cleaned the seed and removed the chaff to improve germination rates. Now, we need your help to plant the seeds. Help us complete the circle of life!
We will provide the milk jugs or seedling flats, propagation soil, and seeds; you provide the foster home and TLC. In June, we’ll have you return the germinated seedlings and bump them up into larger containers to allow their root systems to develop. And, in the autumn of 2022, when they’re strong and ready to face our Midwest winter weather, we’ll host planting workdays to get them established in their new homes.
If you would like to plant and tend native wildflower seeds, please rsvp below so we can best organize the pickup event. Please note that pickup is 1pm – 4pm EASTERN, and only sign up for one date. If you have questions, please contact our Stewardship Assistant, Doug Botka, at dbotka@heinzetrust.org or call the office at 219-242-8558.
