Volunteer! Great Marsh Invasive Species Removal
October 2, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

Although the Great Marsh abounds with the diversity of wildlife found in a healthy wetland ecosystem, there are areas that need human intervention to remove invasive plant species, such as multiflora rose and oriental bittersweet.
In partnership with the Beverly Shores Environmental Restoration Group (ERG), join us and our Stewardship Staff as we work to improve the beautiful marsh habitat along the Bellevue-Charing Trail at our Beverly Shores Project Area.
Due to limited space, we recommend that you carpool, walk, or bike. Parking is available along East Bellevue Ave just west of Merrivale Ave. You are welcome to stay for as little or long as you’d like.
Bring your favorite garden/work gloves if you have them; we’ll have extra on hand if you don’t. We will provide all the necessary equipment and gear, as well as granola bars and water, although we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and come prepared with protective footwear, long pants, long sleeves, hat, and sunscreen. There may be poison ivy, mosquitoes, and ticks, but we will have insect repellant and TecNu on hand for your protection.
So that we can best plan for the event, please RSVP by calling the office at 219-242-8558 or emailing Volunteer Coordinator Christine Maloney at cmaloney@heinzetrust.org. If you have any questions, please also feel free to contact Terry Bonace of ERG at (219) 201-4541 or tbonace@gmail.com. For information about last minute cancellations, please check Facebook.
