Volunteer – Black Locust Removal

November 15, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CST

Black Locust trees can alter soil chemistry, spreads clonally by suckers, and create dense thorny thickets that overshade and outcompete higher quality native plants.  Although it is a native tree, it has invasive traits that we are working to limit so we can create areas of high biodiversity at Meadowbrook Nature Preserve.

We will provide all the necessary equipment and gear, as well as granola bars and water, although we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle. Be prepared to work outside and dress appropriately for the weather. You are welcome to stay for as little or as long as you’d like.

So that we can best plan for the event, please RSVP by calling the office at 219-242-8558 or emailing Christine at cmaloney@heinzetrust.org. For information about last minute cancellations, please check Facebook.
