Spring Phenology Hike @ Meadowbrook Pavilion

April 10 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm CDT
Free

Kick off our seasonal Phenology Hike series with a guided spring walk focused on the signs of renewal and change in the natural world! As days grow longer and temperatures rise, plants and animals respond in visible and fascinating ways. This spring hike invites participants to slow down, observe, and document the early stages of the year’s ecological cycle.

Participants will be introduced to the concept of phenology, the study of nature’s seasonal rhythms, and how careful observation helps scientists track ecological change, including the impacts of climate change. This hike will include hands-on observation, discussion, and opportunities to practice noticing and recording phenological cues.

This program is the first in a four-part series that meets once each season. By returning to the same landscape throughout the year, participants will have the opportunity to notice patterns, changes, and continuities across spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each hike can stand alone, but together they offer a deeper, year-long perspective on the rhythms of the natural world.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate; suitable for most ages. The trail at Meadowbrook varies from gravel paths to moderate trails with stairs and bare roots. The hike is suitable for all experience levels and encourages curiosity, mindful observation, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, water, and curiosity.
