Our 43rd Birthday Hike @ Lydick Bog

Shirley Heinze Land Trust was founded on November 21, 1981. What started off as a small, volunteer-run organization has grown into a 501(c)3 nonprofit that manages over 3,400 acres across six counties and 20+ nature preserves, providing environmental education and programs to countless partners and audiences!

Learn about how our organization has grown, along with taking in the last of the fall colors, yellowing of the tamarack trees, and fall fungi. Volunteer Naturalist Jim Spier will take you throughout the preserve to celebrate 43 years of preserving and restoring nature throughout northwestern Indiana.

What to Expect:

• What to Bring: Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle as there is no potable water at this location.
• Length: Just over a mile long. The 0.3-mile trail to the boardwalk is accessible gravel and boardwalk. The upland trail is varying width and terrain with a few short, steep slopes (up to 45 degree angles)
• Weather Policy: Rain or shine. Event will be cancelled in inclement weather. No rain date.
• Amenities: Accessible outdoor restrooms and parking will be available. No potable water.
