Nature in the Arts – Wellness in the Wetlands

Lubeznik Center for the Arts and Franciscan Health Michigan City are partnering with Shirley Heinze Land Trust for Nature in the Arts at St. Francis Nature Preserve on Saturday, July 20. This event is free and includes a variety of art projects you’ll get to take home!
Wetlands are crucial to human health by reducing flooding and erosion, filtering pollutants in water, and maintaining clean, healthy air. Explore the wetlands of St. Francis Nature Preserve, nestled right next to the Franciscan Health hospital, and learn about the importance of wetlands through hands-on, take-home art projects. Take a “spin” at salad spinner art to create unique patterns, make your own wetland landscape using recycled magazines and tissue paper, and learn about how our local waterways keep us healthy—and how we can keep them healthy, too.
What to Expect:
- Visitors may stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. CDT
- Shirley Heinze Land Trust and the Lubeznik Center will lead art activities, including salad spinner art and landscape collages.
- Franciscan Health Michigan City will offer helps hints & tips for healthy hydration, as well as free, reusable water bottles.
- Enter a giveaway for a Family Membership to Lubeznik!
- Explore the 0.25-mile accessible boardwalk trail and learn about how healthy wetlands keep us healthy, too.
- Nature’s Cupboard will be providing free samples of hydration mixes.
Nature in the Arts is an all-ages program offered by Shirley Heinze Land Trust connecting the art community and people to nature. We encourage individuals and families of all backgrounds and ages to participate. For our other Nature in the Arts events, check out our website.
