This event is free and includes a variety of weaving-based art projects you’ll get to take home!

“Weave” it to us to show the connection between our local waterways and the ecosystems—including humans—that depend on them. From tiny invertebrates that live in streams and act as indicators of water quality and food for larger creatures, to endangered animals like the Blanding’s turtle that rely on water sources to live, these threads weave together with human activity and awareness, and connect us all to nature. Whether you’re inspired by bird nests, spider webs, or just the colors of the sunset over Lake Michigan, let our many connections to water be your inspiration for these weaving projects that are fun for all ages.

What to Expect:

  • Visitors may stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. CDT
  • The Art Barn will lead turtle-weaving and bracelet-making activities.
  • Chesterton Art Center will demonstrate how to use a cardboard or hoop loom using a variety of yarns, threads, and fibers.
  • Guided hikes will be led at 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and noon.
  • The Duneland Plein Air Painters will be painting throughout the preserve, capturing the late-summer scenes of Meadowbrook Nature Preserve.
  • Food available for purchase through the Mixtura Food Truck.
