Nature in the Arts – Make Your Own Dune and Swale Art!
October 1, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free
Create your own art using supplies that represent the alternating landscape of a dune and swale habitat. Explore the nature trail while celebrating artwork from the communities of Gary, Indiana. This event will take place Saturday, October 1st.
Activities will include:
-
- 10am-1pm: Make watercolor art (water representing the swale, or wetland) combined with dry elements of salt and sand (representing the dunes)
- 10am-1pm: We will feature artist Avon Waters in a special plein air session. Avon is an Indiana artist with a special interest in protecting our lands and waters, featuring Indiana landscapes in his work.
- 11am-12pm: Take a guided photography hike where you’ll learn how to compose a great nature shot. Smartphone, DSLR, and film photographers welcome! We will also explore the fantastic and rare dune and swale habitat, and why wetlands are important.
Nature in the Arts is a family-friendly program offered by Shirley Heinze Land Trust connecting the art community and people to nature. We encourage individuals and families of all backgrounds and ages to participate. Pets are welcome, too! Please be sure to pick up after them and keep on a leash. Snacks, water, and portable restrooms will be available at this event.
