National Trails Day – Trail Mix Hike
June 3 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm CDT
FreeCelebrate National Trails Day with Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Brown Faces Green Spaces, and the Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program!
Join us for an urban trail hike in the globally rare dune-and-swale habitat of Ivanhoe South Nature Preserve, located on Gary’s wider west side in the community of Brunswick. Participants will create their own trail mix, then walk the 0.6-mile trail to learn about this unique habitat. This Trail Mix Hike will be “raisin” awareness of the biodiversity of the wetland habitat which dwells within the also diverse community of Brunswick.
We are also partnering with the local Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program to provide an educational component that promotes healthy lifestyle habits through nutritional education and physical activity, such as nature walks in local green spaces.
Schedule:
- 9 – 11 am: Community Cleanup – gloves, bags, and other equipment provided
- 11am – 2 pm: Make-Your-Own Trail Mix
- 11:15 am: Hike #1
- 12:30 pm: Hike #2
