Meadowbrook Monday: Seed Cleaning

Native plant propagation is one of the most important aspects of stewardship at Shirley Heinze. As we’ve seen throughout our schedule of workdays over the past year, seeds must be collected and then cleaned so that they can be sown across our various preserves, increasing diversity of native flora in various habitats and making those habitats more climate resilient. We’ll be cleaning rattlesnake master, goldenrod, milkweed, ironweed, compass plant, and many other species.  It’s a fun way to get an intimate look at the quiet but fascinating life cycle of our native plants while directly supporting our Stewardship staff.

Since we’ll be working inside, no winter clothing is needed, other than what you’ll arrive in. We’ll provide any necessary tools or gear, light snacks, and water. As always, we encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle!
