Grow One Keep One

Want to help our pollinators? Want to improve biodiversity in your yard and help restore Shirley Heinze Land Trust preserves? Join our Grow One Keep One (GOKO) program!
How does it work, you ask? It’s simple and nearly maintenance-free. Plant two milk jugs of native wildflower seeds – “grow one” for us and “keep one” for yourself. We’ll provide you with the milk jugs, soil, seeds, and instructions. Just take everything home, plant the seeds, gently water them, and set them in a warm, sunny spot for two months to germinate. Then, return the “grow one” milk jug in June!
If you have extra space and would like to plant more than two milk jugs, we are happy to supply you with additional milk jugs, soil, and seeds! If you have extra clean, clear milk jugs to donate, we will accept them and pass them along for other GOKO growers to use.
Please rsvp for the date you’d like to pick up your supplies at Meadowbrook Nature Preserve so we can be ready. If you have any questions, feel free to email Volunteer Coordinator Christine Maloney at cmaloney@heinzetrust.org or call the office at 219-242-8558.
