Visitors learning about the importance of forests at St. Francis Nature Preserve.

Shirley Heinze Land Trust is hosting a series of forest bathing walks at St. Francis Nature Preserve, in partnership with Franciscan Health Michigan City.

Forest bathing, also known as shinrin-yoku in Japanese, promotes relaxation, a connection to nature, and overall well-being. These walks are not about intense physical exertion or reaching a specific destination, but rather on slowing down engaging your senses.

Join us on a 0.5-mile walk on the St. Francis wetlands boardwalk. You’ll learn about the science behind forest bathing and how it promotes healthier living, as well as learn techniques to incorporate forest bathing into your everyday life.

The trail at St. Francis Nature Preserve features an accessible wooden boardwalk and designated accessible parking spaces. There will be no restroom at the trailhead; however, visitors may use the restrooms located through the main entrance on the east side of the hospital (not the Emergency Room building).
