Celebrate our region’s biodiversity this Earth Day by birding with Shirley Heinze Land Trust!

Northwestern Indiana is one of the nation’s best birding spots, with a variety of habitats to support a diverse array of birds. The woodlands, wetlands, and streams of Meadowbrook Nature Preserve provide habitat to many bird species, including Eastern Bluebirds and Downy Woodpeckers. Local birding enthusiast and volunteer Jim Haniford will guide you through Meadowbrook’s trails and the basics of birding.

New to birding? This program is suitable for all birding levels!

You can also download the Merlin ID app, and be sure to download the “US: Midwest” pack before hitting the trail. Once downloaded, you can ID birds based on photos and sound—like Shazam for birds!
