Celebrating Nature in the Arts at Lydick Bog!

This summer, to commemorate the 40th anniversary, we began a new initiative, “Nature in the Arts,” which aims to connect people to nature through their appreciation of the arts. On August 14, we held a “Paint Out” at Lydick Bog Nature Preserve in South Bend. Plein-air painters from the Northern Indiana Pastel Society were scattered throughout the trails capturing the scenery, and the public could observe and learn about their process. We are excited to share the artists’ final works here in our virtual gallery!

Guests were also treated to a musical performance by The Music Village Jammers, and helped paint a nature-themed anniversary banner that was designed and illustrated by the South Bend Museum of Art. We are so grateful to our many partners, including many new ones, and volunteers that helped make this event a success! We look forward to further building out these partnerships and growing the “Nature in the Arts” programming in 2022.

Hannah Ollen, Studio Programs Manager at South Bend Museum of Art, designed the banner that was painted by visitors to the Paint Out at Lydick Bog. Here she displays the completed banner.
